About Kristena Prater

Kristena Prater is an author and visionary activist residing in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Her passion for writing began at the age of eleven with poetry and her journey as a storyteller has continued to evolve ever since. As a mother of four and grandmother to six boys, she finds inspiration in family, spirituality, and the world around her.

Kristena has explored many creative paths, including art therapy, mask making, freelance writing, and working as an activist, broadening her understanding of life’s many facets. Her passion for protecting innocent, vulnerable children and young adults from violence and abuse lead her to be an advocate in local and international safe house communities. After suffering the loss of her two oldest children in tragic circumstances, she found the courage and resilience to rebound through the inspiration of family, a deep sense of spirituality, and the extended community that has gathered around her.

Her latest work, “Tessa Eyes on The World,” co-authored with Salodius Byrd, is a testament to her journey through grief, loss, and the triumph of the human spirit. It emerges from a unique collaboration with her oldest daughter, Tessa Marie Horan, where reality unfurls into a fictional narrative. Kristena’s work alongside Salodius aims to capture the untold stories hidden in everyday life, revealing the extraordinary within the ordinary.
